As St. Joseph's upgrades and offers new services, some of the older
Internet browsers cannot be supported. St. Joseph's College is phasing
out support for Netscape 4.x and moving to the SJC Netscape 7.0 browser.
Internet Explorer for home users is supported for versions 5.5 and above.
America Online 6.0 and above usually installs a newer version of Internet
Explorer that should be compatible.
If you see pages with an odd layout or overlapping text, you could
be using a browser that is not supported for the services you are
trying
to
access. WEBMAIL and ACCESS (off–campus
databases) are best viewed using Netscape 6 and above, and IE 5.5 and
above. These browsers translates some of the newer HTML coding and
supports Cascading Style Sheets and Javascript.
When browsing the Internet in general, it is always a good idea to have
one of these lastest browsers with the highest security encryption (128–bit).
Here are some of the sites to help you upgrade your browser:
Recommended Browser Versions (all free to download):
Netscape 7 or 7.01 – http://home.netscape.com/download
Mozilla 1.5 or above – http://www.mozilla.org
• Firebird 0.7 or above (browser only)
[a very good browser
(Netscape is based on this), but for advanced users]
Internet Explorer 6 w/ Service Pack 1 (6.01) –
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/
NOTE: Windows 98, 2000, ME, or XP users can update
their IE browser by using WINDOWS UPDATE please use your computers
HELP feature for more information.
AOL USERS
Even if you have an old version of AOL installed on your computer, you can
still download one of the newer browsers and use your AOL connection to browse
the Internet. Most computers have Internet Explorer installed on their machines
already (and may receive an update of the browser when installing new versions
of AOL).
Follow these Steps to use another browser with AOL:
1) Sign on to AOL
2) Minimize the AOL window (click in
the upperright hand corner of the screen)
3) Open either the Netscape browser or Internet Explorer browser and
use it to access the St. Josephs College website.
